I have projects older than 2013 (I'm a big Kicad fan).
I am going to follow your recommendations.

Make the transition from kicad-2013 to Kicad 4.0.7
Then from Kicad 4.0.7 to Kicad 5.0.0
I have already tried to open some 2013-07-07 projects with version 5 an
failed.
Transition from 2013-07-07 to kicad 4.0.7 only affects the layout
(pcbnew and its libraries).
Transition from 4.0.7 to 5.0.0 only affects schematics.
I send you by private email a 2013-07-07 to 4.0.7 pdf with instructions
to perform the migration.
From 4.0.7 to 5.0.0 it is nearly automatic.
