I'm not sure why I keep getting this type of erc error. "Pin not connected(and no connect symbol found on this pin)" I also get Err Type3 "Pin connected to some others pins but no pin to drive it. The connections look ok but the error keeps returning. Any help appreciated.

thanks, Peter

<p>
<blockquote type="cite">"Pin not connected(and no connect symbol
found on this pin)"  </blockquote>
means that there is a pin you've not made a connection to.  If you
don't actually use a pin then place a 'not connected' flag on that
pin, the icon is the X on the right hand side just above the
junction icon.<br>
</p>
<p>
<blockquote type="cite">Err Type3 "Pin connected to some others
pins but no pin to drive it.</blockquote>
Means the pin has been defined as an 'input' and none of the pins
it connects to are defined as 'outputs'</p>
<p>If you are sure the connection is correct you can ignore it.</p>

The former simply means a pin is not connected. If that is
intentional, you can place a Not-Connected Flag on it (the blue cross on
the eeschema right-hand toolbar). That tells kicad you have not simply
forgotten a pin (which can result in a scrap board if that pin /must/ be
connected).

The latter means that a pin that has been set as an input has no output
pin driving it. It might mean, for example, you have a floating input,
which can result in indeterminate circuit behaviour. The flags that
define the function of a pin are set for each component in the library,
so if you think your schematic is valid you might want to check on the
component itself.

Ignoring warnings is dangerous. If they are real, they will result in
a scrap board. Spurious warnings can mask warning messages that are
indicating something critical (ie you "can't see the wood for the
trees"). No board I sign off for manufacture has ERC or DRC warnings.

Regards,

Robert.

I'm not sure why I keep getting this type of erc error. "Pin not connected(and no connect symbol found on this pin)" I also get Err Type3 "Pin connected to some others pins but no pin to drive it. The connections look ok but the error keeps returning. Any help appreciated.

Thanks for the advice. Now going over the schematic zoomed in reveals my errors.

thanks, Peter

First you can scroll through the errors and they will be highlighted on
the circuit.

Pin not connected is exactly that. Either connect it or add a not
connected ident (the blue X) That's what the No Connect symbol reminder
is telling you to do.

Pin connected to... no pin to drive it.

That's one of two things, both similar.

If a pin is defined as an input, then somewhere along the line it must
connect to another pin that is an output.

The second possibility is if it is a power pin.

If defined as a power_in, then it must connect to either a power_out OR
the net concerned must have a power flag added to it.

You can only have ONE power out on a net.

I personally dislike power outs, so I ensure that there are none such
set on any device. I then add in the corner of the circuit a short line
for each power net, add a power port and a power flag.

Note that ground nets are also consider power, so you need a power
flag on the ground net as well.

Andy
