Discussion:
[kicad-users] single-sided board- how to??

I have just started using KiCad after 30 years of using protell
autotrax- the schematic side of it went well, very easy to get along
with- and the board side of things went well until the built-in
autorouter.

Although it is a very simple board, using a mix of through-hole and
smd, (and I worked out how to get the 0805 resistors on to the bottom
copper), the autorouter insists on making it a double-sided board,
with via's in the oddest of places. As the majority of my boards are
single-sided, this is less than helpful......

I can find no way of turning off the top copper layer- I have searched
the mailing list archives and googled for hours, plenty of people
talking about making single-sided boards, but no hints on how to turn
off the top (front) copper layer.

In the Design Rules/Layers Setup the tick-boxes for both top and
bottom copper are greyed out- can anyone tell me how to get rid of the
top (front) copper layer???

If you mean Freeroute:
I used to be able to specify < 2 layers, but no longer, so as a
workaround, when I export the file for sending to freeroute, I edit the
text and remove the line that specifies the front layer. I don't have an
example handy, but if you want one, I could dig one up in a day or two.

Please, if you do so I will be interested too ;-)

In fact auto-route for single sided pcbs is a problem for a lot of
people. Using Freeroute with it's push&shove could be very nice
